Company: CIM Technologies
Product range: Aerospace components
Bangalore-based CIM Technologies is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company formed in 2008. The company is specialized in machining of aerospace components.
Working with aerospace component materials is challenging and costly, and in order to stay competitive, the company required to meet three objectives such as better metal removal, increased tool life, and machine to produce precise and complex features.
The CIM Technologies has two BFW machines - BMV60+ and BMV50, both with 8000 rpm spindle. “We could meet all the objectives with BFW machine in our shop floor. The machines are with heavy castings, making them rigid and strong. Also, the spindle of the machine has optimum power and torque to suit our roughing operations and has right speed up to 8000 rpm for finishing both aluminum and steel,” says Mr. Vishwanath, one of the partners of the company.
He also added, “We machine different kinds of materials like alloy steels, maraging steel, aerospace grade aluminum and titanium alloys. In steel, the finish machining is done post hardening and the hardness of the material is around 45 HRc. The main requirement in the finishing is that surfaces should be free from chatter with uniform thickness. Credit goes to the BFW machine on which the jobs are getting done very naturally, and also the boring accuracy is within 3-5 microns.”
Machine: BFW BMV 50 and BMV 60+
Material of the component: Alloy steels, maraging steel, aerospace grade aluminum and titanium alloys application
BFW’s machines are helping CIM Technologies attain the following industry requirements: Good surface finishes without any chatter marks and with uniform thickness.
Critical operations involved:
- Roughing of aluminum, titanium, steel alloys and pre-hardened steel
- Finishing of aluminum and titanium with uniform thickness, and finishing of steel alloys and post hardened steel
- Finish boring accuracy less than 5 micron
